There are some professions which demand sacrifices of the highest kind and one of them is the nursing profession. Here are men and women who work day and night to attend to the sick and the injured, forgetting their own happiness and private lives.
It is good to read about International Nurses’ Day being celebrated worldwide to honour nurses’ contribution to the health sector and to pay tribute to Florence Nightingale, who showed the world what the profession is all about.
This is a community of selfless people who must have suffered a lot during the pandemic years and in case of emergencies. For them the welfare of the patient matters more than anything else in the world. They no doubt deserve all our kindness and respect for the work they do and the best kind of treatment from the government.

Prediction of Mr. Winston Churchill
Recently I was reading literature about pre-partition days. I came across a remark of Mr. Winston Churchill, the leader of the Conservative Party, who said in the British House of Commons in 1947 while opposing the Bill to grant Independence to India.
Mr. Churchill said,“Liberty is man’s birth right. However, to give the reins of Government to Congress at this juncture is to hand over the destiny of hungry millions into the hands of rascals, rogues and free-booters. Not a bottle of water or a loaf of bread shall escape taxation. Only the air will be free and the blood of hungry millions will be on the head of Mr.Attlee (the then Prime Minister of England). India will be lost in the political squabbles.”
It goes without saying that Churchill had perfectly evaluated the mindset, mentality and thinking of the Indian ruling class. It seems that Churchill’s prediction has come true.

Laughter a Day
On World Laughter Day, the picture of youthful senior citizens (mentally young) laughing their way out in their laughter clubs in parks is very inspiring. No doubt laughter is the best medicine especially in today’s hectic life with high level of stress and tension.
Dr. Madan Kataria, who pioneered laughter yoga and popularised it found that human body cannot distinguish between genuine and pretended laughter as both produced the same “Happy Chemistry.” In one of his sessions, he made us laugh without a reason first by telling “credit card laughter” and we laughed a little and next he said “credit card bill laughter” and people were rolling on floors and laughing uncontrollably.
Keeping in mind the escalating cost of apples, an apple a day to keep the doctor away may seem an expensive affair but “laughter a day” will certainly keep many diseases at bay. This is one venture where your investment is nil but returns are infinite.

Silence is Complicity in Gaza Genocide
The world watches in silence as Gaza bleeds. The scale of civilian killings, especially of children and women, is nothing short of a genocide. The international community must stop offering hollow condemnations and instead act decisively.
India, with its moral legacy of standing with the oppressed, should call for an immediate ceasefire and humanitarian access. This is not a war; it’s a massacre. Every bomb that falls buries the conscience of the world deeper. It’s time we raise our voices – not just for Gaza, but for our shared humanity.
