Maqbool Ahmed Siraj’s article, “Catastrophe of Character” made a great reading. It was a real eye-opener for us Indians. And as Mahatma Gandhi said, “Corruption and hypocrisy ought not to be inevitable products of democracy, as they undoubtedly are today.” I would just like to add a point that the same should be applicable in academic institutions. Teachers shouldn’t be accepting gifts from their students as this is also a bribe and inadvertently leads to leniency and favouritism.
