This refers to the enquiry report by the metropolitan magistrate S.P. Tamang, holding the encounter of Ishrat Jehan and three others on the outskirts of Ahmedabad in June 2004 as fake. For an average Muslim, the verdict comes as a soothing music. It should be said that, of the four pillars of democracy – it is the Judiciary, which on all times has empathised with religious minorities. While the legislature has often used religion as a key to come to power, the executive, including the law and order machinery was indisposed to treat the minorities as equal citizens. About the press and especially the electronic media, the less said, the better. Its sole motto appears to be catching more and more eye balls.
