Dr. Anwar Ali, who was a professor at the prestigious National Defence Academy, Pune, before his arrest in 2003, could not reinstate his job even after his acquittal by court. Dr. Ali now sells books to earn his livelihood.
Dr. Ali was first apprehended on 9 May 2003 under POTA and charged with different cases. However, he was acquitted of almost all charges due to lack of evidence. But his acquittal did not return his job back to him. Interestingly, the NDA had cited his absence as the reason for his suspension. Mr. Ali, after his acquittal, contacted the authority of the Academy to restore his job, applied for various other jobs and registered with employment exchange as well but got reply neither from NDA nor from any other sector even after the passage of more than two years ever since. Mr. Ali is now selling books he wrote during his detention period.
