A family of four brothers, their wives and children, 17 people in all, who had converted to the Hindu fold in December last year, chose to return to Islam on 1 May. The family, which resides at Davali village of Agra, also found that fellow-Muslims had stopped inviting them to functions at their homes, a report said on 1 May. The father of the four brothers, 70-year-old Rahmat, pleaded with fellow villagers to be allowed to attend a wedding function in the neighbouring village, Rasoolpur. Other community leaders refused the elderly man his wish, and he broke down, one villager said.

“Qazi Sahab saw him crying. On being asked why he was so sad, Rahmat told the Qazi that ever since his sons converted, he had been ostracised. He expressed a desire to be accepted in the community again. The qazi consulted other senior Muslim leaders in the village, and the re-conversion ceremony was organised after the Friday prayers,” Kale Khan, a villager, said.
