Mr. Syed Shahabuddin, President of All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat, has welcomes the historic fast unto death of Mr. Anna Hazare for effective Lok Pal.
In a statement, the Mushawarat leader said, “The All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat hails the historic step taken by the Gandhian leader Anna Hazare by undertaking a fast-unto-death to banish corruption from public life. The Mushawarat support his call to the Central Government to scrap its Lokpal Bill and either adopt the Jan Lok Sahba Bill prepared by eminent members of the Civil Society or to establish a Committee with 50 % representation of the Civil Society to draft and adequate Bill.
“The Mushawarat feels the Civil Society must be fully associated because the Bill is directed against the politicians and the bureaucracy and because corruption has grown into a monster which devours national development and progress and the country will not be satisfied today with a token Lokpal but wants a vigorous and effective institution with full police and judicial powers.
“The Mushawarat, however, wishes to point out that corruption has seeped into every fibre of our social life and, in the face of injustice and delay, the common man approaches the powerful to seek sifararish to the authorities at every stage and pays for the favour received. The Mushawarat is therefore of the view that the society needs a new moral climate based on the Rule of Law and expeditious action to address all grievances, big or small.
“The Mushawarat is confident that Anna Hazare’s initiative has created a new mass thrust and if consequently a powerful institution of Lokpal will emerge to fight against the prevailing corruption, with an effective administrative & legal mechanism it will liberate the common man from the clutches of the corrupt functionaries of the state, from top to bottom.
“The AIMMM appeals to the Government to enter immediately into dialogue with Anna and his colleagues who have authored the Jan Lokpal Bill to work out an acceptable via media & save the precious life of Anna Hazare.”
