All India Muslim Personal Law Board president (AIMPLB) president Moulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president and Hyderabad MP AsaduddinOwaision August 24 met with Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to seek his support in opposing Waqf Amendment Bill 2024.
They presented a memorandum to the Chief Minister, explaining how the Amendment Bill would destroy the Waqf properties.
Telangana Minority Residential Educational Institutions Society (TGMREIS) Chairman Faheem Qureshi was also present.
Owaisi said they emphasised the great dangers of the proposed amendments to Waqf Act.
They termed the Waqf Amendment Bill a conspiracy to usurp and destroy the Waq properties in the name of Waqf protection and transparency. They demanded that the Congress government in the state strongly oppose the Bill before Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC).
Moulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani explained to the Chief Minister that they are demanding the Central government to withdraw the Bill as it tampers with the definition of the Waqf, the status of custodians and the powers of Waqf Boards.
Revanth Reddy was also told that in the name of increasing number of members of the Central Waqf Council and the Waqf Board, the Bill has also made non-Muslim representation mandatory.
The Chief Minister said that the Congress party has taken a clear stand in the Parliament to oppose the Bill.
Earlier, during a meeting with Mohammed Ali Shabbir, Advisor to Telangana government, the Chief Minister said that the state government will also send a letter to the Centre to oppose Waqf Amendment Bill.
