Al Jazeera English Honored Again at 2024 New York Festivals TV & Film Awards

Al Jazeera English has secured the title of ‘Broadcaster of the Year’ at the 2024 New York Festivals TV & Film Awards for an impressive eighth consecutive year. The network amassed a remarkable collection of gold, silver, and bronze medals for its outstanding news coverage and programs.

The prestigious ‘Broadcaster of the Year’ accolade is bestowed upon the media organization that garners the highest number of gold medals. The winners of this esteemed award were announced online on April 16.

This year’s awards saw submissions from over 50 countries, showcasing content aired on both U.S. and international networks such as ITV, BBC, NBC, and CBC.

Al Jazeera English clinched a total of six gold medals. Notable among these was their coverage of the Sudan conflict in 2023, highlighting the plight of over half a million Sudanese who fled to Chad. Correspondents Zein Basravi and Ahmed Idris provided in-depth coverage of the dire conditions faced by the refugees.

Another gold medal was awarded for the documentary “Rescue Mission Gaza” featured on Al Jazeera English’s Witness series, shedding light on the challenges faced by civilians amidst conflict in Gaza City.

Additional gold medals were received for episodes from Fault Lines and 101 East documentary series. The network also secured six silver and eight bronze medals, recognizing episodes from programs like The Listening Post and “Earthrise,” which focuses on environmental issues.

Issa Ali, Acting Managing Director of Al Jazeera English, expressed delight at receiving the prestigious accolade, attributing it to the dedication of the network’s teams committed to impactful journalism in today’s complex world.

Other divisions within the Al Jazeera Media Network also attained significant recognition. The Al Jazeera Investigative Unit received three gold medals for “Gold Mafia – The Laundry Service,” while Al Jazeera Digital’s explainer show “Start Here – On the Road” also earned a gold medal.

All submissions were meticulously reviewed and evaluated by the New York Festivals TV & Film Awards Grand Jury comprising over 200 seasoned professionals from the global media industry.
