All 32 Muslims Acquitted Of Kalyan Communal Clash

The district court, on 5 March, acquitted all the 32 Muslims arrested over their alleged role in the communal clash in Kalyan, Maharashtra, in 2002 which left 4 people dead and several others injured.

The district court, on 5 March, acquitted all the 32 Muslims arrested over their alleged role in the communal clash in Kalyan, Maharashtra, in 2002 which left 4 people dead and several others injured. All the 32 accused were booked under Articles 302 (attempt to murder), 147, 148, 149 (starting communal riots) and 395 of Indian Penal Code. The counsel of the accused, Advocate Zubair, said their acquittal became possible only after intervention of different social organisations. The accused had been in jail for nearly 9 months.

Meanwhile, the Bombay High Court, on 5 March, granted bail to the suspended ACP of Gujarat, Narendra Ameen, who is accused of fake encounters of Sohrabuddin Sheikh and Ishrat Jahan. The court has given him bail on the ground of his medical examination.
