Urdu Press Club (UPC) and Anjuman Taraqqi-e-Urdu (ATU) organised a convention to mark Allama Iqbal’s birthday at Amroha in Uttar Pradesh. Participants in the programme shared their views on the life and contributions of Allama Iqbal. The programme was presided over by a very senior Urdu poet Amin Alam Rabin Amrohwi while ATU general secretary Shauq Amrohwi was the chief guest. Other well-known participants included Qamar Raza Naqvi, fiction writer Shakeel Javed, and UPC general secretary Tola Ram Thakur. In the inaugural session Mr. Javed talked about the poetic vision of Iqbal. He said that Iqbal was too much concerned about his community and had a very kind heart for humanity at large; that is why he refrained himself from customary poetry. From the very beginning Iqbal tried to uplift his community. Speaking on ‘Iqbal and Orientalism’ a senior journalist Mr. Qamar Raees said that Iqbal was a great Orientalist of the 21st century. He was always in favour of eastern cultural values and with his unique poetry tried to popularise Islamic cultural values and Qur’ānic learning.
