Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) has finally complied with the verdict of Central Information Commission by providing file-notings on declaration of Dr Ambedkar’s birthday on April 14 as ‘Close-Day’ to be renewed every year. According to file-notings, no new holiday on birthday of a national leader can be there in addition to the only one existing for that of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2. Interestingly DoPT had earlier refused these file-notings on the plea that it would affect integrity and sovereignty of the nation!
Every big leader has always advised people for working hard. Holidays on birthdays of big leaders are contrary to ideals of these dignitaries. Real tributes should be paid to great leaders by observing their birthdays as ‘extra work-day’ by extending working-hours for say half or one hour on these auspicious dates, including even October 2 and April 14.
