The Aligarh Muslim University, in pursuance of the order of Supreme Court and the Guidelines of the UGC, has completely banned ragging in the campus. The Dean, Students’ Welfare, Prof. Ainul Haque Khan said the UGC, on the directives of the Supreme Court, framed Guidelines with regard to combating the menace of ragging in the Universities/Educational institutions, according to which ragging, besides being a reprehensible act, is now a punishable offence.

Prof. Khan said the University considers “ragging in any form” an act of indiscipline and misconduct and the students found involved in such an act shall be punished as per rules prescribed in the ‘AMU Students’ Conduct & Discipline Rules, 1985’, which may include suspension or even expulsion of the student from the rolls of the University or a fine of ` 500/- extendable up to  2500/-.
