The Department of Library and Information Science, Aligarh Muslim University organised a panel discussion on Open Access Movement to celebrate International Open Access Week-2011. The panel discussion aimed at providing a platform to discuss and share different aspects of open access and its issues and challenges in the present era. The International Open Access Week is organised annually to celebrate the global movement towards Open Access (OA) to research and scholarship.

Prof. Shabahat Husain, Librarian-in-Charge, Maulana Azad Library, AMU, in his speech appreciated the efforts made by the Department in organising the discussion. He expressed desire to create repository of the publication of the whole academic staff of the University for the larger benefit of the teaching community. He also mentioned the endeavour he had taken to download more than two lakhs e-books in Maulana Azad Library and to inform the faculty members of the University to utilize the opportunity during the e-book fair free of cost. Dr. Naushad Ali, Programme Coordinator and the Chairman of Department, proudly announced that the Department will soon release an Intuitional repository of publication of teachers of AMU called “Knowledge Garden”. He further informed that the Department could download more than one hundred e-theses related to library and information science during the fair.
