The foundation stone laying ceremony of the Kishanganj Centre of Aligarh Muslim University, on 30 January, turned out to be political slugfest between Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Asking the people to sideline the communal and fascist forces, Ms Gandhi said that the Father of the Nation was killed by a communal ideology and the country should stop feeding the communal forces. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar, who had got the invitation for the ceremony just two days before, said that the state government has allocated fund worth Rs 992 crore for an Agricultural College in the state while the Centre has given just 137 crore for the development of the AMU centre. “The Rs 137 crore allocated by the Union Government for the AMU centre is like a drop in the ocean,” he stated.
