Dr. Nadeem Khaleel, assistant professor at Aligarh Muslim University’s department of Environmental Engineering and Energy System along with a team of 20 engineers has prepared a mechanism to cleanse contaminated water running into drainages so as to make it useable for public. The mechanism will be installed soon at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, Kalyani, Kolkata and Madhya Pradesh along with the AMU in first stage. The Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, has approved of this project. The mechanism will clean the water in two phases without consuming electricity. In first stage, it will cleanse 70 per cent of water through UASB method by producing bio-gas from the impurity available in sewers and then, in second phase, the plants will be used to remove remaining harmful elements. The team of Dr. Nadeem consisted of 11 Indians as well as 10 foreign nationals.
