Students at Aligarh Muslim University have alleged that Adhan through loudspeakers at campus mosques was suspended during Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s visit to Aligarh, triggering concerns over religious freedom and administrative transparency.

According to students, mosque loudspeakers on the AMU campus stopped broadcasting the call to prayer for several hours as part of security arrangements linked to the Chief Minister’s programme. The visit included public events in Aligarh and was cut short after a fire incident in Lucknow.

A student named Aman said he was preparing to give the Adhan at a hostel mosque when he was informed that loudspeaker use had been suspended until the following morning’s Fajr prayer. He said mosque authorities told him the instruction came from the administration. He added that students across hostels reported similar restrictions.

Another student, Azimur Rahman, said police and university officials visited mosque authorities and instructed them to switch off loudspeakers before the CM’s arrival. He said he witnessed similar directions being followed across hostels.

A university official overseeing mosque administration said restrictions on Adhan loudspeakers were not limited to the campus and applied across parts of the city during the visit. The official said prayers continued and only loudspeaker use was restricted, adding that local administration orders must be followed.
