Citing the varsity tradition, the Vice Chancellor of the Aligarh Muslim University mandated to don Sherwani or Shalwar Suit/Burqa for boys and girls respectively if they want to meet him. Following the increasing moral crisis in the university once known for its exemplary traditions, the VC in a letter addressed to the students and faculty members of the varsity on 27 April, appealed to the students to help him restore the past glory of the biggest Muslim university in the country. Addressing the female students the VC says, “I appeal to my daughters that they should dress according to the glorious traditions of the university.” He added, “I intend to give more opportunity for interaction. Students (male) who wish to meet me in the office will be dressed in Sherwani.”
