Hindutva is once again making headlines. And, as usual, for wrong reasons. The Norwegian mass killer Anders Behring Breivik’s candid assertion in his manifesto of having been inspired by anti-Muslim hate philosophy of Hindutva and its ilk speaks volumes of the tentacles of this hate juggernaut taking roots and posing a serious threat to peace in the various parts of the world.
In his over 1,500-page manifesto, emailed to over 1000 contacts following the frantic move, Breivik has talked at length, in full praise, about the fascist ideology of Hindutva. His admiration of Hindutva ideology, repeated reference to its fascist policies, speaking in the Machiavellian language, criticism of Muslim rulers and condemnation of United Progressive Alliance Government – all contribute to the prove that this is the natural corollary, sour fruit of the seeds of divisiveness between the various religious communities sown over a century ago. As the saying goes, reap as you sow. Therefore, the attempt made by some followers of this singular ideology to delink themselves from Breivik and his terrorist move is an exercise in vain.
The 32-year old conservative Christian fanatic’s killing spree does not prove at all that all Christians are that frantic. Of course, there are Christians, like followers of other religions, who remain noble and tolerant all through their life, love to behave with their fellow beings irrespective of their faith and complexion, and believe in coexistence. This incident simply shows that a terrorist has no religion. It also gives a lesson to the mainstream media that takes no time to name Muslims or Muslim-sounding organisations within minutes of occurrence of some terror acts anywhere in the world. It makes the media persons realise the futility of such name calling.
This terrorist incident calls upon the European rulers, as much as the powers-that-be in other parts of the world, to take the issue of terrorism in its face value, condemn it in all its forms and hues, and take effective, concerted measures to purge their respective societies of such inhuman tendency. This cannot be done by cracking down supposed hubs of terror. The world will have to come back to the basics, realise the ineffectuality of man-made laws and respect the Divine laws as sacrosanct as well as solution to all social ills including terrorism. As for Islam, this final religion of God deems killing of one single person without any rhyme or reason as the killing of entire human race. The world will stand benefited only if it turns the pages of the Qur’ān to see how it ensures peace in its totalitiy.
