Days after BJP’s national spokesperson Nupur Sharma was suspended amid a massive furore over her alleged blasphemous remarks, another BJP leader in Uttar Pradesh has landed in trouble over derogatory tweets against Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. BJP youth wing leader Harshit Srivastava was arrested on June 7. Srivastava was arrested for “attempting to vitiate the atmosphere with his inflammatory remarks,” police said. The objectionable tweets have since been deleted. “We will act against anyone who tries to play with religious sentiments,” said Kanpur Police Commissioner Vijay Meena.

FIRs Galore against Sharma and Jindal

The Calcutta Khilafat Committee on June 10 filed a complaint against Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal at the Jorasanko police station in Kolkata, asking them to file an FIR against the two BJP leaders. The complaint also named the TV anchor who hosted the debate where Nupur Sharma made the remarks against Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

A case has been lodged against now-expelled BJP Delhi media cell head Naveen Kumar Jindal at Thane’s Bhiwandi City police station in Maharashtra. Jindal  has been summoned by Bhiwandi Police to appear before them on June 15. Nupur Sharma has already been summoned by the Mumbra police in Thane to record her statement before the investigating officer on June 22. Also, Mumbai’s Pydhonie police has filed an FIR against Sharma on May 28 for her comments.
