The Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR) has successfully obtained a stay order from the Allahabad High Court against the proposed demolition of properties in the Daal Mandi area of Varanasi. The demolition was part of a road widening project that had sparked widespread concern among local residents and shopkeepers, who feared forced evictions and the razing of structures without due legal process or compensation.
The petitioner in the case, Inamuddin Ahmad, alleged that government officials were pressuring him to vacate his commercial establishment despite there being no formal land acquisition or compensation measures in place as required under law. He approached the court, citing coercive actions and violation of his legal rights.
The case –Inamuddin Ahmad vs State of UP and Others (Writ-C No. 17290 of 2025), was heard by the Allahabad High Court, which issued a stay on the demolition activities, providing temporary relief to numerous families and businesses affected by the proposed project.
APCR’s legal team was led by Senior Advocate Syed Farman Ahmad Naqvi, with support from Senior Advocate Zaheer Asghar and Syed Ahmed Faizan. Their arguments highlighted the absence of proper legal procedures and the lack of transparency in the demolition drive, ultimately convincing the court to intervene.
Local residents welcomed the court’s decision, expressing relief and gratitude for the legal protection.
