As expected the 4-member committee set up by the AEC [atomic energy commission] after visiting Finland have approved of and sang paeans in favour of the EPRs [evolutionary pressurised reactors] which are slated to be installed at Jaitapur. The Government of India seems to be rushing full throttle disregarding the protests of the local people and the opinions of the vast sections of the civil society, scientists and all anti-nuclear activists and NGOs. AEC chairman S. Bannerjee claims that the committee is an independent body. The fact is all of the four members are sarkari scientists who have been associated with government bodies and whose bias cannot but be in favour of nuclear energy.
