Under the present circumstances, the best course of action in this respect is that the prayer-leaders in mosques should spare around 30 minutes five times a day after Isha prayer to teach basic Arabic to the public in the Masjids.
This will facilitate the learning of basic spoken Arabic for the younger generation as well as for adults who are regularly attending Masjids for prayers. This practice is followed in some Masjids in North America. If this is introduced in India, the public will surely welcome it and participate in it wholeheartedly.
In the 1950s, the late Mufti Mohammad Shafi’sDarulUloom in Karachi’s Nanak Wara area had free Arabic classes on its premises that were attended by many enthusiastic learners. There was a big response to these classes. As a child, I had attended these classes and they helped me learn basic Arabic.

Sufism & Modi
According to news published in the media, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the 25th edition of Jahan-e-Khusrau in New Delhi recently. Hazarat Amir Khusrau earned the title “The Parrot of India” for his love of homeland. He is considered a father figure of composite culture of India. Mr. Modi showered encomiums upon Khusrauand Sufism.
In my humble opinion, Sufism which is very akin to Hindu Vedantic philosophy; hence rightists praise this interpretation of Islam in preference to other interpretations.
Muslims and secularists are not going to accept Mr. Modi, howsoever he praises Sufism or wears a Muslim skull-cap. His appreciation for Sufism will not change his image as an anti-Muslim.
I am reminded of a famous statement when Shri Modi praisedSufism, “All the perfumes of Arabia will not sweeten the Modi’s image.”
It would have been better, had he remained faithful to his original ideology and praised it.

Zakat Dues
Muslims all over the world tend to pay their Zakat dues in Ramadan. However, it is important to give Zakat to those who really deserve it. People must ensure that their Zakat money is not wasted, and is paid exactly in accordance with the religious guidelines that are clear and unambiguous.
