Communalism and communal politics has been the single most factor, which has done utmost harm to Indian social life and inter-religious harmony. Politicians have been indulging in it shamelessly and continuously.
The bomb blasts and terror attacks on innocent citizens have also become a recurring phenomenon and they are being used for communal polarisation. Who is or who are behind these reprehensible acts nobody knows, and those who may be knowing do not want to reveal the truth. One thing is certain: the party which used them most dexterously to its political benefit has been invariably the BJP. Election time witnesses a spurt in these deadly blasts. From the beginning of this election year we saw these blasts in Jaipur, Bangalore, Ahmedabad and finally in capital New Delhi. The security agencies were virtually clueless in almost all cases. SIMI, which stands banned since 2001, was the most convenient name on whose doors the blame was always placed. One failed to understand how it became so strong to indulge in these terrorist acts after ban when its former members were under constant surveillance and how it resorted to, as alleged, what it never did when it was a free and active organisation. Then a number of “masterminds” were blamed, one after another, for all these terrorist acts. People were not satisfied with these concocted stories. Then the media jugglers brought out from somewhere Indian Mujahideen (IM). The hype on IM’s involvement in all blasts also died down soon. People were not ready to accept these false stories.
September witnessed communal flare-ups and ethnic clashes in Assam areas. The state government miserably failed to stop these clashes and killings. Then most ghastly blasts rocked Guwahati and other Assam towns with greater ferocity. Still there is no acceptable explanation as to who is behind them. Some sources have unearthed a certain, previously unknown group Islamic Security Force – Indian Mujahideen (ISF-IM). It is based on an SMS received by a Guwahati based city channel. The question is: does any organisation with this name exist anywhere? Or it is just an imaginary creation like Indian Mujahideen? If it exists, are its leaders so foolish to reveal their identity?
The people of India refuse to be taken for a ride. They want an explanation, a clear cut answer why such things are happening? Why our intelligence and security agencies fail again and again? How long this bloody sport will continue to torment the lives of common people?
One more angle need to be taken into consideration, that of Malegaon blasts which killed 6 persons, and whose investigation has revealed involvement of a certain RSS sponsored Sadhvi and Hindutva militant organisations. The previous blasts in Nanded, Kanpur, Thane, Panvel, Tenkasi, etc. were clearly indicating involvement of Hindutva terrorists in blasts but police did not take them seriously. Now it appears that the police is acting, and it must act tough. Justice should be even-handed and “just” and nothing else. Police should be allowed to act impartially without any intervention from political bosses. A ‘no nonsense’ attitude should be adopted by investigating and law enforcing agencies. Whatever they do should be above board. Civil society, fair minded citizens and human rights activists owe a responsibility to nation. They must assert and pressurise the government and its agencies to act justly. If we do not correct our attitude, the nation will suffer. It would be undoing of this great nation and its future. Our future generations and God will not forgive us for this. Media should not play second fiddle to politicians but guide, and guide rightly the nation. In this lies the solution to our present ills and it holds hope for our future – a bright future.
