ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE Are We Ready?

You will not have to learn driving in your entire life… Isn’t that something interesting? You may learn driving for FUN, but it will not be necessary to drive a car, since future cars will be Self Driven.

Do you know technology has the ability to show you how you will look after 30 years? Download Faceapp and try this out. You will find it Amazing. The Latest Faceapp shows is an example of how Artificial Intelligence is taking the world by Storm. Google assistant, Alexa, Siri are all examples of how Artificial Intelligence is taking over.

IMPACT ON ECONOMY & EMPLOYMENT

Very Soon we will find robots doing surgery and they will do better operations than human doctors do due to their precision and technology. Accountants, store counter salesmen, courier boys, truck drivers will all lose their jobs as robots will take over their Jobs.

Even extreme jobs like mining, fire fighting, drilling will also be done by Robots. These are the General Jobs which will be taken over by Artificial Intelligence.

Hanson Robotics has developed Worlds First Humanoid Robot named “SOPHIA” using Artificial Intelligence. Google search or search Youtube for Sophia for more details.

IT CAN BE DANGEROUS

Artificial Intelligence can be very dangerous if it falls into wrong hands. They will use it for their own Interests.

Even before Artificial Intelligence becoming mainstream, we see that Super Powers are bombing and destroying weaker nations through arms and weapons. The Scale of Wars and Destruction will be much higher once Artificial Intelligence is applied to the weapons of mass destruction.

The current trends show that the Big Multinational companies don’t care about human life and can do anything for profit.

OUR APPROACH TO TECHNOLOGY AND INVENTIONS

The Muslim Ummah has been very Late in adopting technology, in fact has been in the forefront in opposing and giving fatwas calling it Haram. History tells us that this approach has had disastrous effect in the development of our community. When cyclostyle machine was invented in the late 19th century, our Ulema who copied and compiled the Quran took 2-3 months for a single copy when Bible propagators cyclostyled thousands of copies and spread it across the world. Similar was the case with the television, loudspeaker, radio, and so on….

Even the latest Faceapp has been condemned and categorised as haram, saying that only Allah knows how we would look after 30 years. What we need to understand is that neither the creators of the app claim to be precise in their prediction, the app has been created for fun and entertainment. There are so many departments like the metrological department which predicts rainfall, storms, etc. for the next few days; we believe them though we are of a firm belief that only Allah Knows what will happen after a few days. The need of the hour is to sense the opportunities and threats that Artificial Intelligence can pose as a technology. Opportunities if it falls in right hands and threats if it falls in wrong hands.

WE CAN BE LEADERS IN ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

Russia’s president Vladimir Putin said: “Artificial intelligence is the future, not only for Russia, but for all humankind. It comes with enormous opportunities, but also threats that are difficult to predict. Whoever becomes the leader in this sphere will become the ruler of the world.”

Any Technology comes with enormous benefits. Same is the case with AI. We Muslims have to be leaders in the field like our Muslim scientists of the Golden Age. We have to study how we Muslims benefitted the world when we gave all the latest inventions. Astrolabe, Compass, Surgical Instruments, Camera, Tooth Brush, etc. are just some examples of the contribution of Muslim scientists during the Golden Age of Muslims from the 8th to the 14th century.

Since the 14th century Muslims have hardly contributed to the field of science and technology. It’s time now that we as Muslims take OATH to be leaders in the field of science and technology. Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be to him) has said that a giving hand is always superior to a receiving hand. We have to be leaders in the field of technology, only then can we make a positive impact on society. If we don’t use Artificial Intelligence for the benefit of society, people with bad intentions will use the technology for the destruction of society.

Artificial Intelligence can help Solve World’s Grave Problems of Poverty, Clean Water, Diseases, Nutrition, Environment, etc.

WHAT CAN WE DO NOW?

Artificial Intelligence is even being Taught to children in western countries. There are institutes which have AI courses for children starting from Class 5. Companies like www.robogenius.in and www.irobokid.com have already started AI courses for children. We should encourage our children to join AI courses. Our youngsters should be motivated to take up AI as a career. Gone are the days where engineering, medical were prime fields. AI will take over engineering and medical in a few years.

Let’s pledge to make this world a better place, as Allah has sent us in this world as His Khalifah (Vicegerent). It’s our Duty to make this world a Better Place.
