Ashfaq Ahmed Shareef has been elected National President of Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO) for the term 2013-14. Shareef hails from the City of Mangalore in Karnataka and graduated in Journalism from Bangalore University. Earlier, he worked as the Zonal President of Karnataka and editor of The Companion, the mouth piece of SIO.
As per the process, he has been elected by the body of Zonal Advisory Council members of all states in an all ZAC convention held at Bangalore from 7 to 9 December. The whole process was supervised by the Chief Patron of SIO and Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Omari. Shareef is likely to assume office on January 1.
