The attack on Supreme Court lawyer Prashant Bhushan is an attack on fundamental rights of the Indian citizens. Prashant said the attack on him was “fascist” and it will not change his view that the country should hold a plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir. “People can oppose my views, but they can’t beat me up,” said Bhushan in an interview to CNN-IBN on October 13.
The question is whether the Constitution of India does provide the right to freedom of expression to the individual. If so, the culprits must be given due punishment.
The arrested one Bagga admitted that he has been actively involved with the BJP’s Youth Wing but now operates under the banner of an organisation called the Bhagat Singh Kranti Sena. He also claimed that he had also attacked Hurriyat Leader Syed Ali Shah Gilani and activist Arundhati Roy. And the third person who attacked Prashant Bhushan, Inder Verma has already been arrested. He calls himself president of a right wing group Sri Ram Sene.
It is high time the Government took concrete measures to contain those who take law in their hands.
