It is indeed strange that in an Islamic country like Pakistan, the holy month of Ramadan brings discomfort to the general public instead of comfort, particularly for low-income segments. This is because retailers consider Ramadan a ‘golden opportunity’ for profiteering, increasing the prices of food items. This is a normal practice in Pakistan.
Contrary to this, in North America, supermarkets put food items on discounted rates well before the arrival of Ramadan, showing their reduced prices in their weekly flyers along with Happy Ramadan greetings. These supermarkets do consider the importance of the holy month for Muslims, and, therefore, offer daily food items at reduced prices throughout Ramadan. Our Muslim retailers in Pakistan should learn from their Western counterparts about how to provide relief to the customers, particularly in Ramadan, as a token of the revered Islamic spirit.

Infanticide in Iran
On February 28, 2026 an air strike in Minab, in Iran’s southern Harmozgan state, 165+ schoolgirls were murdered by Israel-US attack.
A few years ago, a military school in Pakistan was attacked by militants and hundreds of school children were killed. Entire Indian media spoke in unequivocal terms for this inhuman attack on school students. Reams and reams were written to condemn the attack.
A decade ago, Pakistani student, Ms. Malala Yousafzai was attacked by militants for speaking up for the cause of girls’ education. International organisations, human rights activists rallied, candle marches arranged, slogans were shouted at the top of the voice.
But, there is complete silence when coffins of school girls are buried in Iran. Will anybody clarify the above stated three different episodes where different yardsticks are applied?

A Vicious, Planned Genocide
The ongoing suffering of innocent children and families in Gaza is a painful reminder of the human cost behind a vicious, planned genocide. Beyond political narratives, it is their silent pain that demands our attention. So, dear readers, as individuals, let us remember this is not a trend to be forgotten, but a reality we must not forget.

Board of Peace: President Trump’s Conspiracy
This refers to the letter captioned “Palestinian land without Palestinians” by Aisha Abdullah of London (Radiance, 14March 2026) wherein she has intended to say that the board of peace created by the president Donald Trump to bring about peace in Palestine without a single Palestinian included into it is simply Trump’s conspiracy aiming to serve Israeli purpose in Palestine. I agree to her view.
What has suddenly inspired Trump to emerge as the saviour of Palestinians promoting him to constitute the board of peace in Palestine while he had hitherto maintained silence towards the genocide and pogrom on Palestinians by the ‘war criminal’ Benjamin Netanyahu? This board of peace excluding Palestinians from it can never bring about peace in Palestine. In fact, its main objective is to tighten the grip of Israel on Palestine. Muslims must be aware of it. The Glorious Qur’an warns Muslims:“When it is said to them: ‘Make not mischief on earth’’they say: ‘‘We are peacemakers only.” Of a surety, they are the ones who make mischief on earth’.’ (2:11-120)
