Assam United Democratic Front (AUDF) has decided not to enter into an electoral alliance either with the Congress or the Asom Gana Parishad. This step was taken after the AGP declared its intentions to tie with BJP. According to the AUDF President Maulana Badruddin Ajmal the raison d’être behind this move is to present a formidable opposition to the Congress and the AGP-BJP combine. For quite sometime now Maulana Ajmal is camping in New Delhi and has already met SP General Secretary Amar Singh. He was believed to have received a favourable response from Mr. Amar Singh. Encouraged by this response, Maulana Ajmal is planning to meet CPI (M) General Secretary Prakash Karat for carving out a possible electoral alliance.
