Assam United Democratic Front (AUDF) will contest the next Lok Sabha (LS) polls at the national level. This was announced by its National President Maulana Badruddin Ajmal Al-Qasmi at a press conference in New Delhi on February 1. Maulana Ajmal disclosed that initially the Front will focus, apart from Assam, on states of Uttar Pradesh (U.P.), Bihar and Maharashtra. He also informed that till such time the Front is successful in obtaining a registration as a national party, it will contest the elections under United Democratic Front banner in each individual state. The AUDF was formed in 2003 and presently has 10 Assembly seats in the Assam Assembly. The Front has already announced to field its candidates for nine out of 14 Parliamentary seats in Assam. AUDF will not only address the issues of Muslims but would take up the problems of the downtrodden, deprived and oppressed classes as well who have been constantly used as vote banks for the past 60 years. AUDF is prepared to fight elections with secular and democratic forces. In this regard it is in talks with Left Parties, Janata Dal (Secular) and others. Maulana Ajmal completely rejected the idea of ever joining hands with the BJP.
