The Batla House encounter has returned to haunt Delhi Police once again. The post-mortem reports of the two suspects killed in the encounter were obtained by a Jamia Millia Islamia’s final year student, Afroz Alam Sahil with RTI from National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). The four-page autopsy reports of the suspects Atif Amin and Mohammad Sajid reveal that they had suffered injuries by a blunt object apart from gunshot wounds.  Eight out of 10 bullet entry wounds on the body of Atif are on the back side, below his shoulders and at the back of the chest, which point to the fact that he was repeatedly shot from behind. Sajid’s post-mortem report says there were two wounds on his body which were not caused by firearm. These injuries were antemortem in nature, i.e caused before his death. Forensic experts at AIIMS, with anonymity, revealed that the injuries explained in the post-mortem report could have been caused by Sajid falling down on an object or hitting a wall after being shot. If the bullet hits any vital organ, there is excessive loss of blood and inadequate supply of blood which causes haemorrhage,” said the expert.

Students Islamic Organisation of (SIOI) took out a demonstration on March 24 and sought judicial probe in the encounter. Hundreds of SIO activists took part in the rally through the streets in the vicinity of Jamia Millia Islamia and sought justice. “We believe that the encounter was fake. This was a cold-blooded murder and we believe, also, that these boys were killed before bringing to the site of shootout. The Delhi Police staged this entire drama,” said SIO National Secretary Shahnawaz Ali Raihan. “We demand that there should be impartial probe by an acting judge of the Supreme Court,” Raihan added.
