Striking the right balance between secular and religious education, a new brand of Al-Azhar-supervised schools are thriving in Egypt and attracting many parents who want to instill basic Islamic values in the minds of their children.
Sociologist Ahmad Al-Magdoub said what is unique about these schools is the fact that they put science and religion on equal terms.
Al-Magdoub said he is confident that the graduates of Azhar-style schools will leave their indelible marks on society and become a source of pride to their parents. Schools such as “Al-Ghad El-Moshreq” and “Memphis” have taken the initiative and launched Azhar-style grades a few years ago to meet a growing demand from parents, who want to enrol their children at religious plus secular schools in the meantime. The number of these schools has risen to 20 in Cairo alone.
