Home Minister of Maharashtra RR Patil has demanded to include right-wing groups like Sanatan Sanstha and Abhinav Bharat in the category of banned terrorist organisations. According to Patil, the request in this regard is already pending with the Centre and the Maharashtra government is hopeful that the centre will take necessary steps at an appropriate time. Almost a year ago all the necessary documentary evidences were provided to the concern authorities. The Maharashtra police want the two organisations included in the schedule of terrorist organisations. The name of the two groups had been figured out during investigations of various blast cases in Maharashtra, including the 2008 Malegaon blast case. These investigations were carried out by the anti-terror squad and the CBI.  Patil has expressed concern over the slow pace of probe in several terror cases and at the same time urged the need for an exclusive police station of the NIA in Maharashtra. Presently, the NIA takes up only those cases that are forwarded to it by local police stations and other investigating agencies.
