Maulana Badruddin Ajmal, President All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) and Lok Sabha Member from Assam’s Dhubri constituency, on May 25 sent a letter to the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, demanding an immediate ban on social networking websites named Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, Google, Wikipedia and Flickr, for carrying caricatures of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be to him).

A copy of his letter was also forwarded to the President of India, UPA Chairperson, Union Home Minister, Minister for External Affairs, Minister of Information and Broadcasting and the Minister for Minority Affairs. In his letter Maulana Ajmal stated: “We the members of AIUDF and Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind, on behalf of all Muslims of India, are sorry to inform you that the recent move of Facebook on ‘Everybody Draw Mohammed Day’ has hurt Muslims’ religious sentiments by drawing abusive caricatures of Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be to him).
