HazratIbn Abbas narrates that the Prophet ﷺ sent Mu’adh to Yemen and said, “Be afraid, from the curse of the oppressed as there is no screen between his invocation and Allah.”
(Bukhari)
Islam has been revealed to protect the natural rights of all human beings. Violating these rights for any reason without a just cause is a major sin. Oppression on an individual or a group of people is one such violation of rights. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ has taught us to be afraid of an oppressor’s curse, for his curse is always answered. So, we should be fearful of committing oppression because Allah will always answer the supplication of an oppressed person.
In another hadith of Bukhari, Mu’adh ibn Jabal himself has reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺsaid: “Beware of the supplication of the oppressed, for there is no veil between it and Allah.”
In a hadith of Mustadrakreported by Ibn Umar: The Messenger of Allah, ﷺsaid: “Beware of the supplication of the oppressed, for it ascends to Allah as if it were a flare.”
Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺsaid: “The supplications of three are never turned back: (one of them) the supplication of the oppressed is raised above the clouds by Allah, the gates of heaven open for it and the Lord says: By My might, I will surely help you in due time.” (Tirmidhī)
These and other ahadith show that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ warned us on different occasions against committing an act of oppression.
