Dr. Manmohan Singh who pushed the Indo-U.S. Nuclear Deal is tight-lipped over the stand taken by G8 nations to ban transfer of ENR technology to India, for being non-signatory to Non-Proliferation Treaty.  The politicians like Mulayam Singh Yadav, Amar Singh and Lalu Prasad who helped the UPA government in passing the deal are silent now.  The Left’s opposition to the deal was always viewed through the prism of the so-called ‘anti-Americanism’. It is better late than never for Dr. Manmohan Singh government to realise that the conditions like – some of our nuclear reactors to be kept under the surveillance of IAEA in perpetuity – the annual certification by the U.S. President to its Congress that, India’s foreign policy is in congruence with the U.S – would be detrimental to the sovereign interests of our country – non-guarantee of nuclear technology notwithstanding.
