Allegations of terrorism and derogatory remarks have become the order of the day for Muslims, and nowadays even the educational institutions have become the platform to demonise and vilify Islam and Muslims. Recently the malicious and malevolent remarks made by a Professor in Jamia Millia Islamia, which in itself is a minority institution in New Delhi, has left everyone aghast. Professor P. K. Basu, a visiting professor in JMI and a member of Planning Commission, passed derogatory remarks on the whole Muslim community and that too in a class he was teaching. On September 7, the day blast took place. Basu came to the class of MBA, 1st semester and starting with the blast, veered the discussion to Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan and then started abusing the whole Muslim community. He even linked the Wednesday’s blast with the Muslim community and called JMI ‘a third grade university’.
After uttering such degrading words, he went forward to a Kashmiri girl in the class who was wearing a veil, and addressed her by saying “you are a BLACK HEAD”. And he did not stop at that and started demeaning the veil and made fun of it. The girl, a fresher in college, started crying helplessly. Professor Basu is known for his uncouth and scornful remarks. The students straightaway went to the HOD to register complaint against Basu.
