Sikh and Hindu organisations besides Kashmiri leaders have strongly denounced a failed attempt to attack Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Shah Gilani, allegedly by hooligans of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, at a seminar on Kashmir in New Delhi. The spokesmen of Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association, Muslim Khwateen Markaz, Democratic Political Movement (DPM) and Tehreek-Hurriyet, in their statements are reported to have said that such acts exposed the treatment meted out to the people of Kashmir. The spokesman of Kashmir Pandit Sangharsh Samiti (KPSS) in a statement lauded Syed Ali Gilani for his support and sympathy to the minorities in the Valley. The Chairman of All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee, Jagmohan Singh Raina while condemning the incident, said, “It is an immoral and barbaric act which is against the basic principles of politics and democracy. The act was an attempt to widen the gap between Muslims and KPs living in Kashmir.” He further said during the 2008 land row agitation, it was Geelani who expressed concern on the security of minority community while authorities acted as mute spectators. The KPSS president said Geelani has always extended the helping hand to the minorities in the need of the hour.
