Biden’s hypocrisy on Gaza at the time of Saudi-Iran rapprochement

The attack of the Palestinian armed groups on October 7 was surprising in its intensity and success in breaking through the Israeli iron fence. It was written on the wall. Everyone knows that the Gaza Strip, besieged since 2007 and deprived of food, medicine, fuel, trade and communication with the outside world, is ready to explode at any moment. This happened in the years 2008, 2012 and 2021 in a big way. The Palestinian attack and the aftermath of Israel’s war of hatred against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the expansion of the conflict to include Lebanon, Yemen and Iraq, confirmed the policy of Saudi Arabia that stability and peace in the region will not be possible without a just solution to the Palestinian issue.

The war was also a test of the new security options of Saudi Arabia, which began in 2021 and was aimed at reconciliation with Iran. During the last five months of the war on Gaza, the political positions of Riyadh and Tehran remarkably matched on the Palestinian issue. Both of them emphasized the priority of providing humanitarian aid to Gaza, the centrality of a ceasefire, the prohibition of the expansion of the war to include other countries, and the necessity of ending the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories.

At the same time, it was clear that the US was unable to force its ally, Israel, to stop the war of genocide in Gaza. Washington has also failed in pressuring Tel Aviv to allow humanitarian aid to Gaza, or to persuade it to accept the two-state solution as an indispensable condition for ending the conflict and achieving peace.

US President Joe Biden, during his talk about the killing of innocents in Gaza, neither mentioned the identity of the killer, nor did he mention the source of the weapons which were used in these killings. Biden’s blind words came in his annual State of the Union address, where he stressed that what is happening in Gaza is “heartbreaking,” especially the killing of “innocent women and children.”

Actually, this speech which Biden delivered gave the impression to the listeners to believe that he is the head of the Green Party, which is concerned with environmental safety, and not the financier and supporter of this war!

We should remember Biden’s hypocrisy in his country’s involvement in this war from head to toe, so that the actions of the head of the American administration are seen as consistent with his words!

Since the Israeli war, which followed the “Al-Aqsa Flood” on the Gaza Strip, the Joe Biden administration has fully adopted the Israeli point of view and has spared no effort in making Israel appear to have the right to kill, terrorize, displace, and starve Palestinians, under the slogan of “the right to self-defence.” Washington vetoed three draft Security Council resolutions to prevent stopping the war in Gaza.

In his speech, Biden called for bringing relief into Gaza, but he did not talk about Israel closing the crossings required for the flow of aid.

The US president must act according to his weight as head of a superpower and one of the major decision-making countries in the world, not as a volunteer in a relief organization.
