More than 50 Kashmiri students studying in different colleges of Dehradun have been forced to stop their study midway and return home as they cannot bear continuous mental and physical torment of Hindutva groups. The only ‘crime’ they committed, according to the Hindutva group, was that they held a peaceful protest against the hanging of Afzal Guru on 9 February in the city. “The day Guru was hanged, I along with my friend went to Indira Nagar market for shopping. As we entered the shop a group of about 40 people, all BJP activists, dragged us out of the shop and beat us mercilessly till we fell unconscious; and when we sought help from the local police, the BJP goons spat on our faces… The doctors too refused to treat us,” Mohammad Shafi, a student who returned home, was reported as saying.
