Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has described the election manifesto of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as destructive for the identity of minorities and other social groups and contrary to the requirements of justice. Mr. Nusrat Ali, Secretary General of the organisation, said Uniform Civil Code that BJP talked about in its manifesto is against the wider interests of the country.
“In a plural society like India where people follow different religions, faiths and customs, how can one code be formulated particularly for religious affairs and how can it be implemented? Despite this clear fact, the insistence of BJP on Uniform Civil Code reflects its fascist, communal, dictatorial and violent mindset. It is sad that BJP remembered Uniform Civil Code but forgot ban on wine in entire country or elimination of interest due to which the society is surrounded by hundreds of problems and is unable to get rid of them,” Mr. Ali said in a statement on 9 April.
