Brahmos and Ghouri Missiles

It is a matter of satisfaction that our able scientists, of course with the guidance provided by Russian scientists, have successfully test-fired supersonic missile Brahmos. We could achieve this success after spending millions of rupees. Our neighbour Pakistan is also not lagging in this field. It also successfully test-fired its Ghouri missile.

Apart from celebrating these achievements in military field, ground realities also should be realised by both the countries. Neither of the two is in a position to use these weapons as it is plagued with terrorism, insurgencies and internal discord. Indian farmers are still committing suicides. Pakistan ’s farmers are also not happy with their conditions. The growing influence of US, its occupation in the neighbourhood and its interference in the internal affairs have disturbed our politicians as well as common citizens. Then what is the use of these missiles? They are no better than toys in the hands of a petulant child. They do not provide anything better than pseudo-satisfaction.

Politicians on both sides of the border should stop this mad arms race and divert the funds towards the wellbeing of farmers and other weaker sections of society. This will go a long way in ameliorating the sufferings of common people and improving their lot.
