Hours after the horrific and barbaric blast took place in Delhi High Court, people came to collect the dead bodies of their loved ones from the mortuary. But the insensitive behaviour and inhumane response of the mortuary staff left them aghast, leading them to even hurl abuses at the officials. The relatives of the deceased accused the mortuary staff of unnecessary delay in handing over the dead bodies. Sukhdev Singh, who had gone to collect his friend’s body, complained about the authority’s callous attitude. “First they told me to get a polythene wrapper for the body, then after 15 minutes they asked me to get a four metre cloth again to wrap the body. Couldn’t they tell me to get those things at the same time?” said Sukhdev.

According to the relatives, the hospital authorities were taking too much time to release the dead bodies and some relatives also complained of the presence of touts outside the mortuary, charging around Rs.700 for conducting an early autopsy of the bodies. The demand of cloth and plastic wrapper by the mortuary staff irate many relatives. “Can’t they even give us a piece of cloth and plastic wrapper? As taxpaying citizens, don’t we even deserve that?” a relative said.

The visitors said that the mortuary staff could have been more human and sensitive to their feelings at least at this time of distress and pain.
