New Delhi Declaration presents solid ground for resolving the current conflicts of the world. It is a matter of pride for us Indians that India played a prominent role in this BRICS summit. The declaration stresses the point that ours is not the era of conflicts and wars.
The world is facing the negative consequences of the five years long Ukraine-Russia war. At the same time the world is paying a heavy price because of the Middle East conflict, which has endangered the whole world in respect of energy and security. India also is paying a big price because of the prolonged conflict.
It is a positive thing that all the participating heads of states adopted a reconciliatory attitude to make the world a better place. An important bone of contention in the world has been the attitude of Trump and Netanyahu and the war which they have thrust upon the world.
Trump has contributed a lot to the upheaval in the present-day world because of his maverick policies regarding imposition of unacceptable tariffs. His use of brute power and arms twisting through sanctions and tariffs has slowed down the world economy.
Xi Jinping’s participation in the summit is a positive thing from Indian point of view. We can hope that India and China, the two giants of Global South, will desist from confrontation and adopt the policy of reconciliation. Global South as a bloc is expected to play a big role in the world diplomacy. As regards the question of the leadership of Global South, it is a distant dream for India. China deserves it because it possesses an important position for being the greatest manufacturing country in the world with 30 per cent share of the world. We can deserve this when we desist from communal and negative policies of Hindus versus Muslims, etc. etc.
We are not in a position to challenge China. This was articulated a year ago by our Minister of External Affairs Dr.S. Jaishankar. The world understands the language of power. Therefore, it is in our interest that we should try to somehow solve our differences regarding border with China.
We must appreciate the broadmindedness of Iran President Masoud Pezeshkian, who in spite of our pro-Israel policies appeared to be in the mood of reconciliation. It is time that PM Modi makes full use of the goodwill generated by BRICS summit, and mend our fences with Iran and desist from being in the company of Israel, the root cause of Middle East crisis. International diplomacy is a tight rope walking and it requires both tact and ethics.
