CACHE OF EXPLOSIVES SEIZED IN MAHARASHTRA, GUJARAT

A week after the Pune blast, Maharashtra police seized a huge cache of explosives and detonators and arrested three people in Kolhapur district of the state on February 18. The police raided three different locations in the district and recovered 70 kg of ammonium nitrate, 6,525 gelatin sticks, and 10,225 detonators. The police also recovered wires and trigger mechanisms, all totally valued at nearly Rs.100,000, assistant police inspector B. Chauhan of Karvir police station told media persons. The accused were identified as Kishen Bhairu Choudhary, 30, Mohanlal Kanudas Vaishnav, 32, and Jamnalal Kanudas Vaishnv, 30, all from Rajasthan. On the other hand the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Gujarat seized a large quantity of explosives and several hundred detonators during checking of vehicles at Vapi on February 13. Officials said the explosives were being taken illegally for use at a stone mine and the cops nabbed them investigating the matter for a possible link with the bomb blast in Pune. The SOG arrested four persons in this connection and issued a search warrant for Ramesh Konkani, a constable with the Silvassa police, who allegedly supplied explosives illegally to mine owners.
