The Amnesty International, on 1 April, launched a campaign against the killing of civilians by armed forces in Kashmir valley. The campaign titled, “Pick up your pen to stop police abuse”, would also contact civilians through social networking sites and telephone. A global petition to support the campaign would be available on Facebook till 1 June. As a part of the campaign, AI wants the Government of Jammu & Kashmir to take a stand of zero tolerance on the issue of human rights violations in the valley. The Amnesty also criticised the detention of civilian under Public Safety Act. The AI claims, on the basis of its research, that the police authorities detain people repeatedly under PSA for months together without informing their families and despite the court’s order to release them.  The PSA allows the government to detain any person for two years at a stretch without court trial.
