The Central Bureau of Investigation, on 21 February, arrested Girish Singhal, Superintendent of Police, State Crime Records Bureau, from Ahmadabad over Ishrat Jahan encounter case. Singhal was Assistant Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch, when Ishrat and three others were killed in an encounter near Ahmedabad on 15 June 2004. The CBI, in its FIR, named 20 police officials including DG Vanzara and NK Amin, who are also accused in Sohrabuddin encounter case while two others—Girish Singal and Tarun Barot—were found involved in Sadique Jamal encounter case. The trio encounters are said to be fake and were carried out by the concerned officials to prove their support and loyalty to the Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
