Some social activist groups and various Muslim organisations on April 10 held an “Insaaf Rally” (March for Justice) in Jaipur, Rajasthan, protesting the tardy progress in the investigations into the killing of Station House Officer Phool Muhammad of Man Town police station in Sawai Madhopur district of the State.
The protesters, who included a sizeable number of persons from Sawai Madhopur and Sikar, the district to which the slain police officer belonged, started from Muslim Musafir Khana and converged into a meeting near the Statue Circle. The meeting was addressed by activist lawyer Prem Krishna Sharma and Arya Samaj leader Satyarat Samvedi.
Later a delegation of 14 persons, including Qari Moinuddin, convener of the Rajasthan Muslim Forum, Sarvodaya activist Sawai Singh, Engineer Saleem of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Mohammed Hasan of IRADA Society besides Muhammad Nazimuddin and Khan Muhammad, relatives of the deceased police officer, met Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot at his official residence.
“We had a detailed talk with Chief Minister in which we demanded a CBI enquiry into the killing of Phool Muhammad and also to the situations which led to the heinous act by the mob,” one of the delegates told the presspersons.
“The delegation told Mr. Gehlot that the people are not satisfied with the investigations done so far,” Engineer Saleem said after the meeting. “The Chief Minister gave a patient hearing and said the Government proposed to institute a CBI enquiry into the case,” he informed.
