During the Emergency, when Jamaat-e-Islami Hind was banned along with some extra-constitutional organisations, there was none to distinguish it from the communal elements who are the real troublemakers, and it was told on protesting, if I remember, that ‘the ban was an act of balancing’.
If a party or government has to choose between minority and majority at any point of time for the purpose of securing votes, obviously it will be the majority, which has to be taken care of in the first instance.
Young, well-educated youth of one community are being arrested on mere suspicion, tortured, rot for years in jails and released only after their lives are ruined. Others against whom confirmed evidence of crime, corruption and violence etc. exists go scot-free. Nobody should defend the real culprits in any form of terrorism, including state terrorism.
Can anybody imagine terrorism in the world multiplying to this extent today if the bombers of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were brought to the book, the way they should have been as the first users of the atomic bomb?
Does anybody need so many threats, sanctions and consultations to stop countries like Iran from having nuclear facilities, even from peaceful purposes?
The principle of making a law deterrent to the crime has been opposed always by the criminals saying that it is uncivilized to implement such a law.
Among the ultra civilized nations are some that bombard other countries, killing unarmed innocents including children and brazenly declaring the killed as militants and terrorists.
Then we are aware of the leading ‘civilized’ country using drones indiscriminately to eliminate similar targets – most of the time ‘by mistake’.
Today by ‘terrorists’ in mainstream media some vested interests wrongly imply those practising Islam in word and spirit. Above historical facts also confirm to this.
Discussions and arguments are held on various TV channels on this subject from time to time with little or totally ill-informed guests concluding that nobody is to blame or everybody is to be equally blamed. That is how the criminals in today’s civilized society escape without being brought to the book.
For example, Dr. Zakir Nayak, was stopped from a visit to the UK to deliver a lecture, on the pretext that he is calling upon all the Muslims to be ‘terrorists’, quoting out of context from his book ‘Answers to Non-Muslims Questions’.
Dr. Zakir Nayak clarified that he meant (as per the book also) that if terrorism shall mean frightening or terrorising the anti-social elements just as the police do to criminals, then there is no secret about all Muslims being terrorists. Such points were never so much emphasised.
There is no shortcut solution to terrorism except individual character building on the basis of truth and justice.
