Citizens Should Unite To Usher in True Democracy

India is passing through an unprecedented crisis. It is a confrontation between the forces of democracy on one hand and the forces of disintegration or what is precisely called fascism on the other.

The BJP swears by democracy, but its 12 years long record at the centre and in most of states and union territories, which it has captured up till now, proves that it is an out and out anti-democratic and fascist party, which pursues the policies of communalising every issue, dividing the people of the country on narrow and pseudo-religious issues, and which captures power by employing dubious and anti-democratic tactics. The BJP, through its hatemongering and divisive policies, has destroyed the country in every field. This party does not believe in liberty, equality and fraternity, the golden principles enshrined in the Constitution of India as the fundamental principles of governance and socio-political life.

The greatest sin committed by the BJP is the hate it instils in the minds of the Hindu majority against minorities like Muslims, Christians and Dalits. This has dangerously spoiled the entire society.

When the BJP found that it has failed in fulfilling its promises of development and economic prosperity, it adopted the policy of poisonous propaganda and filling the minds of its followers with mutual suspicion, fear and hate. When it found that people are refusing to fall in line, which may cost its hold on power, it introduced Special Intensive Revision (SIR) through the Chief Election Commissioner which is a fraudulent and deceitful exercise based on excluding more than 13crore genuine voters. The Opposition parties are opposing such undemocratic and unconstitutional moves of the BJP. They are united in restoring the fundamental principles of the Constitution and protecting the adult franchise which has been granted and assured to every Indian citizen.

It is overwhelmingly being felt, like never before, by all citizens and endorsed by eminent legal experts like Kapil Sibal, Prashant Bhushan, Yogendra Yadav, Manusingh Sanghvi as well as all political leaders who have brought to light the acts of omission and commission for which CEC Gyanesh Kumar must be held responsible and dismissed. But in reality, Mr. Gyanesh Kumar is not the architect of all wrongdoings. The Supreme Court may not act decisively; this is the impression of the majority of people all over the country. It is unfortunate that common people now question the integrity of judiciary.

The legal system and law has its limits. Therefore, in our opinion, the peaceful protests by opposition parties and democratic activists must continue. The power-intoxicated ruling party may not see the light of reason. Therefore, the well-wishers of the country and supporters of democracy must continue the peaceful but powerful protests and force the real actors and their party to see the light of reason. The wrong-doers should be forced to resign and make way for ushering in true democracy. The selfish and corrupt government must be made to give way to truly democratic and people-friendly government.
