Communal clashes broke out in Faizabad during a procession carrying an idol of Durga for immersion on October 24 following which curfew was imposed in some parts of the city. About 10 persons were injured in clashes while 15 shops and some vehicles were burnt. Curfew was clamped in City Kotwali and Cantonment Police Station areas and the district borders were sealed to check the movement of anti-social elements, said Subhas Chandra, Inspector General Lucknow Range.

BP Singh, Inspector General (Law and Order) said some people in the procession threw gulal on a religious place, while some youths passed objectionable comments on a girl of another community in Chowk area. The incident led to arguments. A group of youths went berserk on a rumour of stone pelting on the procession. They too started pelting stones on houses. Thus started the communal violence.

Meanwhile, communal tension took place in Akola, Nagpur following stone pelting on a Durga procession on October 23. The violence led to the death of at least four people and huge damage to the property. At least five people were also injured. The state has deployed over 500 police personnel to maintain peace and harmony.

Likewise, police issued prohibitory orders under Article 144 of Indian Penal Code in Musheerabad and Bhokakpur areas of Hyderabad after clashes between two communities on October 24. Trouble began when a Qurbani-bull ran amok. While members of one community tried to catch the bull, members of another community objected to it and attacked with weapons, leading to heated arguments and clashes.
